Cajun Seasoning Ingredients
Find the Ingredients with actual measurements at the bottom of the post. The list below is just a reference.
- Onion Powder: Onion flavor adds such a nice sweet onion flavor to the seasoning. Not at all overwhelming like fresh onions. So much better!
- Garlic Powder: If you love garlic flavor you'll love this Louisiana cajun seasoning recipe. You can certainly use less if you prefer a more mellowed down garlic flavor.
- Dried Thyme: Use a good quality dried thyme. This will boost the flavor manifold.
- Dried Oregano: Oregano will add layer of warm pepper flavor to this homemade cajun seasoning recipe.
- Paprika: You can use either smoked or sweet paprika. Use whatever you have on hand.
- Cayenne: For extra spicy double the amount of cayenne. Todays recipe is mildly spicy.
- Ground Black Pepper: I love using fresh ground pepper.
Best Tips
- Non Spicy Cajun Seasoning: Reduce the amount of cayenne. You can also add just a few pinches, do a taste test and add more if you feel like.
- Extra spicy cajun seasoning: Add more cayenne or you can double the amount of cayenne. You'll have a really spicy cajun seasoning.
- Ground vs Dried: Use dried thyme and oregano. If you have ground thyme and oregano on hand reduce the amounts mentioned in this recipe. Ground herbs has a more concentrated and intense flavor as compared to dried herbs.
- For best flavor: Make a small batch and use it up quickly for best results. Spices and herbs do not go bad over time but they lose the pungency and aroma. The faster you use it, the better it'll taste.
